Smelt Fishing in Clyde River
In past years, when winters were harsher, smelt fishing was a way to earn extra money. There was an abundance of smelts to catch in Clyde River which we referred to in our history. In the book, it described Watson Livingston’s success in his own smelt fishing operation.
Recently, J’Nan Brown provided some new interesting artefacts from Dan MacNeill’s former property. J’Nan found a stamp used to mark the barrels of smelts shipped by train from Dan MacNeill to Berman Fish Company in Boston and New York.
