Patricia (Patty) Matheson Enjoys her Birthday Present
Patty Matheson received an early birthday present this year from her faithful friend Carol Murray and, as you can see, she is well on her way through her treasured gift, The History and Stories of Clyde River.
The nurses say Patty is so excited about the history of Clyde River that she holds the book in her arms all the time and takes great pride in showing her former house to all who enter her room.
Mrs. Patty Matheson now lives at the Park West Lodge and will be 97 on her birthday, March 17th.
Patty was featured several times in the book. She and her husband operated the corner store and post office for many years until 1966. She was a faithful member of the Clyde River Baptist Church and, in fact, was the owner of one of the lovely quilts shown at the launch of the book which she gave to Carol Murray for us to enjoy.
Patty was a charter member of the Clyde River Women’s Institute and is shown in the History when she returned to the Riverview Community Centre as a special guest for the 50th anniversary of the Women’s Institute. Patty appeared in the Drama Club picture for the “Good Old Summertime” play in 1948 and as a leader of the Sunshine 4-H Club in 1958.
Whether you remember Patty Matheson as a young woman or you know her now as an older lady who is frailer with years, the one thing that remains constant is her big smile that still lights up her face and the room.
We wish her a happy birthday from Clyde River and truly appreciate the important contribution that she has made to her community. Happy Birthday, Patty!
