60th Anniversary of the Clyde River Women’s Institute
Sixty years ago, 17 women met at the home of Hazel Beer and decided to establish a branch of the Women’s Institute. Amazingly, three of these women are still contributing to “Home and Country” and attended the 60th Anniversary of this hard working Women’s Institute Branch. At the Charter Meeting were, Wanda MacPhail, there with her mother Lillian Livingston, Norma MacLean and Hazel Beer. Hilda Beer joined soon after.
At the 60th Anniversary Celebration held on Saturday June 19, 2010 at the Riverview Community Centre, Carol MacLellan, President of PEIWI brought congratulations from the Provincial Board and presented a 60 yr. certificate to the Clyde River Women’s Institute.
Three members were given life memberships at the Anniversary party for their contributions to the branch namely JoAnn MacPhail, Emily Bryant and Ferne Halman.
The 60th Anniversary celebration was organized by Helen MacPhail and Ethel MacQuarrie. Renee Dahn provided background music by playing the violin beautifully.
The Clyde River Women’s Institute invites women living in the area to join their group. After a summer break, the meetings will resume on Tuesday September 7 th at 8 p.m. at the Riverview Community Centre. Before that, come along to the Strawberry Festival on July 14th, from 6-8 p.m. and check out one of their ongoing programs.
