P.E.I. Senior Islanders of the Year Awards were given last week and Annie Boyle, once a resident of Clyde River, was one of the winners and deservedly so. She contributed to this community for many years before moving to Charlottetown. People in Clyde River still speak of Annie’s committment as a 4-H leader. In recent years, as a Board Member, Annie has represented the Senior’s Citizen’s Federation at several events at the Riverview Community Centre. She was helpful during the research of Clyde River’s history since Annie had once lived in the Stone House and knew about its history.

Through her many community involvements, Annie has made an impact all across PEI. While Annie Boyle was nominated by the Arthritis Society, several groups could have honored her in this way as Annie has been an active member of the P.E.I. Senior Citizen’s Federation, the Kidney Foundation, the Loyal Orange Lodge, PEI Community Schools and the Red Hat Society. The following information is part of the citation by the Arthritis Society.

“Annie is a key person in the Arthritis Society’s Annual Door-to-Door Campaign. Over the past five years, as a volunteer canvasser, Annie has single-handedly raised over $30,000 for The Arthritis Society and its work to support people with Arthritis. Each year Annie canvasses the Brighton area of Charlottetown all by herself and brings in up to 50% of the total funds collected from across the Island. Annie’s commitment, persistence and dedication are invaluable to our organization. Always cheerful, Annie is an excellent ambassador for The Arthritis Society.”
