This project of the Clyde River Women’s Institute has been happening for six years now and continues to grow. It is a major fundraiser with proceeds going to the upkeep of the Riverview Community Centre in Clyde River. Equally important, it is an opportunity for community volunteers to work together and keep in touch with the community. Volunteers, from 13 to 91, showed up on Friday and Saturday, October 30th and 31st and some stayed for the entire two days. Five volunteers came from neighbouring communities to join in the camaraderie and the project. What’s more, a few of these same volunteers had worked with a wonderful group of students throughout the week to prepare the pastry dough.
When volunteers stay throughout the apple pie making process they are well fed. Food for break times was prepared by several women and three meals were served and enjoyed. A few of the pies were baked during the two days and the aroma of apple pies baking in the oven seemed to stimulate appetites. The laughter and chatter added to the atmosphere throughout the two days and especially during break time.
To find a fundraiser that also raises community spirit is a successful venture and this Apple Pie Festival, named by a volunteer last year, is indeed a success. Thank you to all who helped and all who bought these apple pies.
