Concert in the Park Report
The Concert in the Park was a success despite the so-so weather. The rain held off until most people left but it was chilly. The atmosphere was warm though with a great variety of entertainment. Suzanne Wilkie started off the program followed by Murray Murphy. These two singers have great voices and offered very nice selections. Neither of them are from Clyde River so we were very fortunate to get them to participate. Emily Ross had asked two of their younger cousins to dance but in the end only Grace danced and what a nice little dancer she is.
We had a break midway for food and socializing. There were about 70 people in attendance and the 48 hotdogs and 24 hamburgers made with Angus beef (compliments of the Dixons) were quickly devoured. This sale and some donations gives the park committee some extra money for updates to the park. Thank you everyone who helped here.
Luckily Mitch Woodside was home from Toronto for a few days and back by popular demand, Mitch put on a great performance. Vans and Emily Bryant sang a couple of numbers and then Vans with his guitar joined Joe Penny on mandolin and Herb MacDougall on violin for some toe tapping music to finish the evening.
Special thanks to the Ross family for taking the lead in making the evening happen. Lisa had the stage area beautifully decorated. Erica emceed the event. Emily did most of the organizing. Ellen drove a golf cart for people who needed help from the parking lot across the road. Kevin picked up and returned the carts (thank you to Ozzie MacEachern) and Kevin and Jim Colodey capably attended to the barbeque. Alex Dixon and Allan MacQuarrie saw that everyone got parked and to and from the park safely.
It takes a lot of coordinating for a concert but there was consensus that we will hold another concert in 2012 and already we have ideas for entertainers.
