Abby Sawyer’s illustration was one of three chosen to be featured on t-shirts as part of the 100th Anniversary of 4-H in Canada. A design had to be submitted by February 28th, and the winner was to be announced on May 5th. There were a lot of designs, and many clubs went for a collaborative approach in designing their t-shirts. In Abby’s case, she created a t-shirt/hoodie design for the Wheatley River 4-H Club last year, so when the details of the contest were announced, the project was assigned to Abby. The theme of the contest was “Show your 4-H Colours”. Abby says, “So, using my handy-dandy markers, I ultimately came up with an illustration.”
This illustration was then digitized and will be screen printed onto a dark coloured t-shirt.The contest results were posted on 4-H Canada’s Facebook page with the following message:
“Thanks everyone for all the t-shirt designs and thank you to 4-H lovers and supporters for your likes and comments. It was a hard choice! So much so that we chose three designs with a little help from all of you. Congratulations to Moya Ferrigno of Nova Scotia and the Double “D” 4-H Club, Bri Marohn of the Neepawa Silver Spurs in Manitoba and Abigail Sawyer from the Wheatley River 4-H Club in PEI! You will each receive t-shirts with your own design on them for you and your club members! Also, we will be making your t-shirts available for purchase in our 4-H online store, so that we can all “show our colours” from coast to coast. A special thanks to all 4-Hers who submitted a design. Your enthusiasm is inspiring and we were so proud to showcase your talent here. Thanks all.”
Abby says that she did not know that she had won until her friends started congratulating her on her Facebook wall. “I was very excited. This contest was a great way to give back to 4-H, an organization that I feel has done so much for me.” Abby lives on the Bannockburn Road in Clyde River.

Sharon says that Abby started drawing horses when she was three years old, and now as a teen, she still draws and paints them, and she also owns a miniature horse. Her passion for horses was part of her reason for joining 4-H when she arrived in PEI and led to another artistic achievement we covered in an earlier story. […]
