The Clyde River Community Council has been hearing about thefts from vehicles within the community this Fall. They have spoken to the RCMP and were forwarded a press release that included a checklist of what we can do to protect ourselves. S/Sgt. Mark Crowther says that thieves look for items like women’s purses, wallets, expensive handbags, cash, coins and other valuables that are easily pawned. Please take the following precautions:
- Ensure your car doors are locked. Almost all of the incidents this fall within Queen’s County have been a result of unlocked car doors.
- Leave a porch light on
- Use motion detectors
- Remove valuables
- Secure your vehicles and take ignition keys with you
- Involve a Neighbourhood Watch and report suspicious activity
- When up at night, have a look around. Be vigilant.
