Rural Municipality of Clyde River Council
Hilda Colodey – Mayor
My husband Jim and I live on the Bannockburn Road, just across the road from the farm where my ancestral Dixon family settled in the 1830s. I am a retired teacher who taught at Charlottetown Rural High School and Bluefield High School. I am also a member of Burnside Presbyterian Church and the Clyde River Historical Committee. I was part of the committee that researched and wrote The History and Stories of Clyde River. This is my second term as mayor. Phone: 902-675-3171
“Even though, except for my university years, I’ve lived in Clyde River all my life, my understanding and appreciation of our community was much enhanced by being part of the group that researched and published the community history in 2009. Serving on Council allows me the honour of being part of the continuing progression in this wonderful rural municipality.”
Councillors
I am married with four children. My family moved to Clyde River Rd. four years ago from Cornwall and I absolutely love the community of Clyde River. I enjoy living in the country but still so close to town. I am also a legion member, which I enjoy. I have worked at Health PEI for 36 years.

I grew up in New Haven and am married with two children. We moved from Cornwall to my Mother’s family home on the Clyde River Road 15 years ago, and are very happy we did so. Clyde River is a beautiful place, and a great community to raise a family. I’ve been employed at the QEH and Health PEI since 1994.
“I hope that I can make a positive impact participating in Clyde River Community Council, and learn more about the issues affecting my community.”
Julia Purcell
After brief stints in stage design and health care, I am now a full-time active visual artist. I paint the beautiful landscapes of Clyde River often. I serve on two arts-related boards and have lived in the community since 1990.
“As a member of council, I am very interested in the benefits and protections of an official plan for Clyde River, in safe guarding our natural environment now and into the future and in improving our community for all.”
Steven Shoemaker
I live on Alexander Drive overlooking the scenic West River in Dunedin Estates with my wife Cynthia and two sons; Samuel, 17 and Simon, 12. My wife and I are both teachers and really enjoy living in Clyde River.
“I have always had in interest in politics and decided to submit my name for Municipal Council in order to become more acquainted with the community, and to represent its residents best interests within the political framework of Prince Edward Island.”
Carolyn Wood
My husband and I live on a small mixed farm across the road from where I grew up. Our daughters are the 6th generation of Gillespie descendants to grow up and live in the community of Clyde River. I have worked for the PEI Department of Agriculture and Fisheries since graduating from Nova Scotia Agricultural College. I’m involved in the 4-H program at both the club and provincial level and a member of Burnside Presbyterian Church, PEI Sheep Breeders’ Association, PEI Wild Blueberry Association and a Certified Crop Advisor.
“This is my second term on council and I’m looking forward the next 4 years.”

“Following the retirement of our previous CAO, I was encouraged to take on the role. I look forward to working with the new council and giving back to the Clyde River community that has been home to our family for five generations.
I encourage all residents to get involved with your community by attending events, providing feedback on how your council is doing as well as speaking up on issues that are important to you. Learn / know where your tax dollars are being spent and, best of all, become a volunteer on a committee.”
