The stone carver incorporated a number of elements in this grave marker. The dominant features are the flowers in the centre of the stone and, historically, they represent both the beauty and brevity of human life as stated in Psalm 103: 15-16: “As for man, his days are as grass, as a flower of the field, for the wind passeth over it and it is gone.” A variety of flowers are surrounded by leaves of different kinds–ivy at the centre top and fern on the bottom left and right. The outer border repeats the fern growing in two directions. The style of this stone is akin to those in the Old Burying Ground, Fredericton, NB.
