Art in the Park, Saturday, August 20th, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Story Updated)
We originally published this story a few weeks ago, but there are more interesting details to add about this upcoming event that is happening this coming Saturday. Also, it looks like we may have a wonderful warm, sunny day to enjoy our art or to watch others create their art. See you this Saturday. Here are the latest details:
All are welcome to participate in “Art in the Park” at Murchison Place Park, Clyde River, on Saturday, August 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. This is your chance to enjoy your artistic hobby (or profession) in the company of old friends, new friends and neighbours.
What you can do? You could paint, take photos, draw, write, knit, crochet, do needlepoint or just enjoy watching everyone else do their art. You might use the beautiful flowers and elements of the park as your artistic subjects. If you want to come along but do not have a hobby, you can enjoy the art of conversation and chat with friends or new friends. If you have a deck of cards, maybe you can find someone who would like to join you in a game.
What supplies to bring? Your own chair, art supplies, easel, camera, drawing book, or whatever is required for your art. If you have been working on some creative projects over the summer, take along some samples to show to others.
What you could win? Everyone will be a winner. For each attendee, Ellen’s Creek Gallery and Framing will offer a 25% discount coupon for art supplies or framing. Also, there will be a draw for a $50 Ellen’s Creek Gallery gift certificate.
Also, Matos Winery & Vineyards in St. Catherine’s is providing a basket of wine, crackers, nuts and chocolates for one lucky winner.
What to bring for lunch? Take along a picnic lunch for yourself. If you have some fresh-baked biscuits, muffins or cookies, pack a few extras for your artistic friends. Knowing the folks in Clyde River, you can be assured there will be tasty treats. Beverages will be provided thanks to Cornwall Save Easy.
Entertainment? Every artist deserves a serenade, so we have asked a few musicians to drop by to enjoy their art of music and play for us.
Clyde River artist Julia Purcell will offer a water colour painting demonstration.
The Cornwall Library will have a display of art books on painting, drawing, arts and crafts, crocheting and knitting. There will be a children’s reading tent for those who wish to take a child or grandchild along.
Annie Boyle will offer lessons for those who want to learn how to knit or crochet.
Weather? As of today’s forecast, it looks like it will be a warm, sunny day on August 20th! If for some unexpected reason, it is raining though, we will delay it to the following Saturday on Aug. 27, same time/place. Check this website and Clyde River Facebook page for updates if there is a chance of rain.
Parking? You can park either just across the road in the Clyde River Presbyterian Church parking lot or just down the road in front of the Riverview Community Centre. Murchison Place Park is located at the corner of the Trans Canada Highway and Clyde River Road.
We look forward to seeing you there for a creative, fun and relaxing morning. Feel free to arrive earlier in the morning if you wish or stay later. It is your park to enjoy.
Visit our Murchison Place page to learn more about the wonderful history of this park and view photos. See you on Saturday!
Let’s bring the park alive with art! You may be pleasantly surprised what could transpire.
