Clyde River Book Launch, Nov. 10, 2:00-4:00 pm
You are all invited to the book launch of Landscape of Memories on Saturday, November 10th, from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Riverview Community Centre. The book features 60 pages of full-colour photography covering themes of farming, heritage/antiques, community buildings, community events, Murchison Place Park, landscapes and gardens. Each photo includes captions that offer insight into the history of the community. It will be a wonderful companion to The History and Stories of Clyde River that was published in 2009.
The book was written and photographed by Vivian Beer who grew up in Clyde River. The seniors of Clyde River were actively involved with Vivian on this project.
“In the creation of Landscape of Memories, I was keenly aware that I was communicating and interpreting the deep knowledge and love the Clyde River seniors have for this community, a love that I also share with them. The whole experience was very enriching for me and I feel very honoured to have had a chance to work with the Clyde River Women’s Institute and the seniors of Clyde River to create this book.” said Vivian.
This photo book project was an initiative of the Clyde River Women’s Institute (CRWI). For over 60 yrs. this group has worked to support and promote the community of Clyde River. The CRWI gratefully acknowledges the Government of Canada’s New Horizons Senior’s Program who provided funding for this project.
Landscape of Memories is dedicated to John and Hazel Beer, Vivian Beer’s parents. Hazel was a founding member of the Clyde River Women’s Institute and, in fact, hosted the charter meeting.
The CRWI acknowledges and thanks the seniors who contributed to the book by providing invaluable historical knowledge, Vivian Beer for the many hours she dedicated to the book and her exceptional writing and photography, and to the Island firms Technomedia and Kwik Kopy Printing, both of whom added their talents and skill to put the finishing touches on this outstanding book.
Photos show spectacular scenes of Clyde River from 2011 and 2012. Each photo represents the photographer’s and seniors’ respect for the community, a legacy they want to pass on to future generations.
Landscape of Memories will make Christmas shopping easy this year. It will be a great gift to show your friends what a beautiful community you live in. For those living away, it will be a trip down memory lane and a re-connection to your heritage. It is also a valuable gift for grandparents to share with their grandchildren where they can enjoy sitting with them to tell about the rich stories of their beautiful home. And, of course, it is a wonderful present for you to enjoy. Anyone who grew up in a rural community or loves the beauty of country living will strongly connect with this book. Copies are limited, so make sure you have a copy of our latest community treasure.
